HALDANE CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT

Welcome to HALDANE

Emergency Dismissal Procedures:  Should it become necessary to close school early due to inclement weather or some other unforeseen emergency, we want to ensure a safe dismissal for all of our students.  The District will activate the NTI system (emergency phone system) and calls will be made to the home and work numbers you have provided.  It is most important that you complete the yellow emergency card correctly and that you update the information regularly.  Please include your cell phone numbers.  You are encouraged to develop a consistent plan for your child/children in case of an emergency dismissal and to review this plan with them regularly.

Delayed Opening or School Closing:  Due to weather related or emergency conditions, it is sometimes necessary to delay the opening of school or to close school altogether. When this occurs, announcements will be made over the local radio station indicated below. WHUD-FM 100.7

Attendance Policy: As per New York State regulations and Haldane School District policy it is expected that students will be in school every day, will arrive on time and remain in school until the end of the day.  Illegal absences, such as family vacations, will be noted on the attendance sheets and should be discouraged.  Regular attendance is critical for student success in school.  Although teachers will try to provide work for a student during absences, there is no way to replace the learning that occurs in the classroom.  Please make every effort to schedule vacations and non-emergency medical appointments during non-school hours.  To be eligible for Perfect Attendance students must be in school every day, arriving on time and leaving at regular dismissal time.  Please refer to the appendix or to the complete district policy on attendance.

Absence Procedures:  Parents are to call the school office between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on any day in which their child will be absent.  Upon return to school, the parent must provide, in writing, the reason why the child was absent.  Please call 265-9254 and follow option 2 (ext. 139) on the voice mail menu for reporting absences.  If you are leaving a message on the voice mail, please remember to give your name, your child’s name, the date and the reason for the absence.  If parents wish to request homework for an absent child, please make that request by 9:00 AM.  Homework may be picked up in the elementary office at dismissal time.  Requests coming later in the day may not be able to be filled.

Cafeteria Program:  An a la carte breakfast program is available for students K-5.  MS/HS lunch is $2.10, Elementary School (K-5) lunch is $1.95, and adult lunch is $3.00.  Please note change in prices for the 2007-2008 school year.  Assorted snacks are available for students to purchase when they have completed their lunch.

A prepaid lunch  program is available to students.  Please send in a check made out to the Haldane Cafeteria in any amount.  Include your child’s name and teacher’s name on the check and on the outside of the envelope in which it is enclosed.  Elementary students will use their pin number to purchase lunch and the amount will be debited from the account.  Parents will be notified when the account reaches a balance of $5.00.  We strongly encourage the use of the prepaid system to avoid the confusion of forgotten lunches or lost money.  A free or reduced lunch program is available to eligible families.  Monthly menus are sent home with students.
